Trouble Don’t Last Always is a concert filled with songs of hope, comfort, determination, optimism, and joy. From the tender spiritual Steal Away to its exuberant gospel cousin Haven’t Got Long, from the ancient promise of We Are Marching to Zion to Dolly Parton’s radiant Light of a Clear Blue Morning, these songs remind us that even in difficult times, there is always a way forward. We’ll also sing Dide Ta Deo, an African song of homecoming, and Endless Night from The Lion King—music that speaks to longing, resilience, belonging, and the light we carry through darkness.
The theme of this concert grew in part from our recent journey to Ghana, where we encountered both joy and challenge, and were reminded again of the power of music to bring people together across cultures, generations, and histories. We’ll share some of those stories along the way, connecting our experiences in Ghana with the songs we sing here at home. Among them is Woyaya—“We will get there”—a Ghanaian song that has become a powerful expression of perseverance and hope. Together, the music and stories offer a simple but powerful message: trouble may come, but it does not last forever, and there is always reason to keep singing, keep moving forward, and keep looking for the light.
