Cuba Connection:

While in Cuba in May of 2015, Sharing A New Song Cuba travelers shared their final dinner with Cubans Ruy and Sandra, and Wilmia. After dinner, Ruy, a master drummer, enjoyed playing drums with Louise Grasmere and Linda Shoemaker.

Marcia Steere has maintained contact with Ruy and Sandra. Ruy hopes SANS will return to Havana and sing in concert with him. Sandra writes that Ruy also plans to play in Boston sometime. Ruy and Sandra recently wrote that Ruy’s sons, Harold and Ruy, will play at the Museum of Fine Arts Remis Auditorium on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m. Harold Lopez-Nussa, pianist and composer; his brother, Ruy, a drummer; and Luques Curtis on bass will perform in Boston.

Marcia has been offered a group ticket rate for SANS members of $15 per ticket. Regular admission is $25. Marcia needs to hear from those interested in attending by Monday, September 19. Marcia will collect ticket money at Monday’s rehearsal and order tickets on September 23. Marcia’s email is:

“I believe strengthening our Cuban connections is good for SANS,” wrote Marcia. Marcia is hoping SANS members will be interested in connecting with the musicians after the performance, and is checking with them about their schedule. All SANS members are invited to participate; you need not have traveled to Cuba. Please let Marcia know your interest at Monday’s rehearsal, so she can inform the MFA the number of tickets needed.
