SANS Notes 10.15.16
Rehearsals resume on Monday, October 17 at 7:15 p.m.
Rehearsal begins with warm-ups. *If you arrive after 7:15 p.m., please wait in the back of the hall until a break in the warm-up or rehearsal before taking your seat.*
Assistant SANS Music Director* Kilian Mooney* will arrive at rehearsal at 7 p.m. for those who come for extra help in anything music-related — a difficult part of the music, vocal part assessments, general musicianship training. Kilian is interested in helping people feel more confident about singing, so they can enjoy it even more.
Music for Khumbaya will be available at Monday’s rehearsal. See Music Librarians Lissa Gilbert and Patty Parker for a copy, or stop by the table as you enter the rehearsal hall to pick up your copy.
New Member Orientation October 24.
There will be a new member orientation before rehearsal on Monday, October 24, 6:15 p.m.
John Barstow will take chorus photos on October 24. Costume czar *Alan Rias* asks that we wear all-black to rehearsal. SANS will provide Turkish scarves, purchased in Istanbul in 2014. Scarves will be distributed at rehearsal on the 24th from Genie Ware (alto) and Sandy Sherwood (soprano). Please return them after rehearsal. See Concert Dress below.
Concert Dress: Plain black (no sequins or other colors, no gray or charcoal gray), long- or three-quarter-length-sleeved shirt, black pants or skirt (below-knee length), black close-toed shoes and stockings/socks. No short-sleeved shirts or plunging necklines, please. Also, *please do not wear large earrings, or perfumes or scents; some singers are allergic to scents.*
SANS Website: sanschorus.org http://sanschorus.org
If you are a member of the 2016–17 SANS Chorus, your password to the Member’s section was sent to you in an email from Sharing A New Song on Wednesday, October 12. The Members section currently contains the 2016–17 Calendar for the chorus, the weekly Notes, and Jonathan’s playlist. It will soon contain a members’ directory, and possibly additional practice tools, including mp3s and other rehearsal tools (which are for rehearsal purposes only and should not be shared).
If you have questions or problems logging in, please write to firstname.lastname@example.org, or talk to Veronica Chapman or Anne Pearson (both altos) at rehearsal.
Sing with Tom and Marion!
An opportunity to sing with Marion Harris and* Tom Howard* at their residence, Youville Place, 10 Pelham Road *in Lexington on Sunday afternoon, October 30 *at 4 p.m.
Marion and Tom are longtime Sharing A New Song members, who have traveled often with SANS. They recently moved to Youville Place in Lexington and are doing well. When they moved there a year ago, Marion tried to start a chorus. Marion and Tom are hoping that SANS members will join them in singing on Sunday afternoon, October 30 at 4 p.m. Marion hopes Youville residents will also sing. All are welcome to join Marion and Tom in song.
South African Organist Zorada Temmingh in Boston on November 6 at 2 p.m.
*On Sunday, November 6 at 2 p.m., *renowned South African organist *Zorada Temmingh* will offer her extraordinary skills in an organ concert at Boston’s *Old West Church, 131 Cambridge Street *(near Mass General Hospital).
Please join us for this wonderful opportunity to support our South African friends, and to experience the work of an extraordinary organist from Stellenbosch, South Africa. Music Director *Sherlock Fortuin, *a longtime friend of Sharing A New Song (SANS), himself an organist and Music Director of the Berg River Choir from Piketberg, where SANS will travel in August, has sponsored Zorada Temmingh’s tour in the United States. SANS members will host Zorada and Sherlock when they are in Boston. Temmingh will also visit Chicago, and the Voices in Harmony Choir in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
*Donations are $15 at the door. *Concert proceeds will benefit scholarships to support a diverse group of SANS singers in South Africa in August of 2017.
Following are SANS section leaders for 2016–2017. If you have questions about music, please ask your section leader, either before, during, or after rehearsal, or by email at the following addresses:

Tony Poole – bass: email@example.com firstname.lastname@example.org
Carolyn Saxon – soprano: email@example.com firstname.lastname@example.org

For those who have paid their dues, black three-ring notebooks are available from the SANS Librarians, Lissa Gilbert *and Patty Parker.*
If you would like to punch music that isn’t already punched to put in notebooks, there is a paper punch or two on the side table.
We encourage SANS chorus members to record rehearsals and review music at home to retain what we have learned before the following week’s rehearsal.
Please turn volume off on cell phones before rehearsal begins.
Please bring water and a pencil to rehearsal. Water may be refilled at the drinking fountain in the hall outside rehearsal.
